M2M contacts drive HIV cases up

The Department of Health (DOH) started counting Filipinos with HIV/AIDS since 1984. By now, the health agency has recorded almost 10,000 cases of HIV/AIDS in the country and a great majority of infected are males. Men 20 to 34 years old have the highest number of cases among age groups.

"From 2007, there has been a shift in the predominant trend of sexual transmission from heterosexual contact (21%) to males having sex with other males (79%)," the report added.
