COMELEC Notes PPCRV's Concern

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) today assured the church-based electoral watchdog, Parish Pastoral Council on Responsible Voting (PPCRV), that their choice of poll automation technology wouldn’t be hinged on the basis of practicality alone, but also on the urgent need to limit, if not totally stamp-out electoral fraud by modernizing our elections.

“The COMELEC understands the PPCRV’s concern. We share their belief that we should never put a price tag on the people’s overwhelming desire for a clean and honest elections by way of automation,” says COMELEC spokesman James Jimenez.

The COMELEC spokesman, at the same time, expressed confidence that the poll body’s Advisory Council will soon come up with a recommendation of the best election automation technology that will “truly reflect the people’s aspirations.”

The COMELEC’s Advisory Council is composed of industry experts from the Department of Science and technology (DOST), the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT), the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Engineering, and the country’s foremost information technology formations. The PPCRV is also a member of the council.
