BS Nursing is Now a 5-year Course

Starting next school year, courses such as nursing, accounting, and other non-board courses will now be a five-year course.

Ched chairman Dr. Emmanuel Angeles, the vice chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Education (PTFE), said that the move is part of their continuing effort to make the Philippines at par with the rest of the world in terms of education.

He also added that part of the PTFE’s recommendation is the adoption of a 10+2+3 formula in reforming the country’s education system: 10 years of elementary and secondary education, two years for pre-university and three years for baccalaureate.

According to the Chairman, the course under the revised curriculum would be cheaper, contrary to the belief that the additional year would entail additional expense to parents.

In view of the global economic crisis, some educators said that the implementation of a five-year curriculum should be discussed thoroughly with parents and the students since they are the most affected by the changes.
