This was made possible through the launching of affordable generic medicines by the Department of Health (DOH) yesterday.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III introduced the project through a press conference at the East Avenue Medical Center with the aim to bring down the prices of medicines to a more affordable range for the poor.
The P100 project, dubbed "Cheaper and Quality Medicines are Coming to Town," is the Christmas offering of the DOH to the poor, according to Duque.
The treatment packs includes medicines for illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, infections, asthma, high cholesterol levels, and arthritis will be initially available at public hospitals catering to poor patients and that prices will not exceed P100.
The DOH simultaneously launched the P100 program in six other areas in the country namely Quirino Memorial Medical Center, Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center, Cagayan Valley Medical Center, Bicol Medical Center, and South Cotabato Provincial Hospital.
The health secretary also added that the medicines, though generic, are safe and efficient having approved by the Bureau of Food and Drugs.
The P100 treatment packs would soon be available in Botika ng Bayan and Botika ng Barangay outlets to poor patients who have prescriptions from certified physicians.
